About 200 kilometers south of Bangkok, the seaside resort of Hua Hin has long been a popular destination for Thais fleeing the city and has also gained popularity among foreign tourists. With several bus stops in Hua Hin, you can get to other popular destinations in southern Thailand from here, but which bus station you choose depends on where you’re ultimately going. Our Hua Hin Bus Station guide should help answer any questions you may have.
Hua Hin Old Bus Station
Once Hua Hin Central Bus Station, located in the heart of the city, it is now known as the “old” station. Don’t be fooled by its central location into thinking that the big bus companies will come and go here, because unfortunately this is not the case. Probably to make things easier for travelers and reduce congestion in the city center, many long-distance buses now use different terminals, such as the new Hua Hin Bus Station, or have drop-off and pick-up stops right outside their offices. This left the old bus station mainly for local bus companies that operate shorter routes with multiple stops. If you are planning to travel around Hua Hin, this is the bus station you need.
New Hua Hin Bus Station
The new Hua Hin Bus Station is located on the outskirts of the city, right next to Hua Hin Airport. As the name suggests, it’s new and modern, so it’s a nice place if you have to wait for a bus. Despite appearances, not many bus companies actually use this station, so as with all Thailand travel plans, be sure to check where you get off when you arrive in Hua Hin and where you need to go to catch a bus to other destinations. In these difficult times, timetables are changing quite regularly, so while we strive to provide all the most up-to-date information, unfortunately we cannot guarantee this.
Bus from Hua Hin to Suvarnabhumi Airport
The new Hua Hin Bus Station is conveniently located next to the airport and approximately 10 kilometers north of the city. One of the largest bus companies using the new Hua Hin bus station is Airport Hua Hin Bus, operated by Roong Reuang Coach Company (RRC). Your first class bus runs daily from From Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport to Hua Hin and vice versa, in addition to continuing from the airport to Pattaya. As RRC is one of the main users of this Hua Hin Bus Station, it can also be heard as RRC Bus Station. Another company, Bell Travel Service, also operates from the new bus station and offers the same routes as Roong Reuang Coach.
Getting to Hua Hin New Bus Station is quite easy if you are in central Hua Hin; You can use taxis, tuk-tuks and songthaews, and if you are at the old bus station, there is a shuttle bus from there to the new one.
Hua Hin Minibus Station
In addition to large buses, you can travel from Hua Hin to Bangkok by minibus. These minibuses serve the new Mochit Minibus Terminal in Bangkok, Ekkamai Bus Station and Khao San Road. This stop is also known as Hua Hin Minibus Station. Another minibus option is to travel from Hua Hin Market Village.
Other directions from Hua Hin Bus Station
So far we’ve only really talked about bus connections to and from Bangkok. Hua Hin is easy to reach from Bangkok – which is why it’s such a popular destination for short breaks from the capital – but its southern location also makes it a good base for other popular destinations in southern Thailand.
Bus from Hua Hin to Koh Tao or Koh Samui
For example, Hua Hin to Koh Tao is a very popular route, as is Hua Hin to Koh Samui, and both routes can be covered using one of Thailand’s most famous bus companies, Lomprayah. Lomprayah has chosen not to use Hua Hin bus stations and is instead operating services from its downtown offices on Petchkasem Road, just south of the intersection with Hua Hin Avenue 61.
Travel from Hua Hin to Koh Tao It is a long overnight journey, taking around 9 hours and 15 minutes by bus and then ferry. An even longer journey is from Hua Hin to Koh Samui. Lomprayah again offers a bus and ferry service that takes almost 12 hours and travels overnight.
Lomprayah is one of the most well-known companies in Thailand, so it usually charges higher fares than other bus companies. If you want to go from Hua Hin to Koh Samui and spend less, you can go with Na Thon. The journey takes about the same time (a little longer if you have the right schedule), but costs much less when traveling by bus, minibus and ferry. Na Thon buses depart from the heart of Hua Hin, right next to the Hua Hin Clock Tower.
Tickets and timetables from Hua Hin Bus Station
Due to the large number of different bus stops in Hua Hin, as well as buses running from external company offices, finding the right bus station for your destination can be a challenge. Timetables are constantly changing as demand for buses to and from Hua Hin increases. This means that more services will likely be added over time.
A centralized and convenient place to book tickets, check timetables and compare prices is the 12go website. They usually have the latest information, and when you book online you often benefit from other benefits, such as the ability to change or cancel tickets, as well as 12th support if something goes wrong during your trip.
